ETHOS STATEMENT

The ethos of Sewardstone Evangelical Church stems from

   -  its doctrinal basis,

   -  belief that it is a functional local Body of Christ and part of the worldwide church,

   -  belief that it has a mission to reach out into the neighbourhood and beyond with the message of Salvation through

      faith in Christ alone, 

   -  its desire to make disciples of all nations.

The motivation for this stems from a belief in the absolute supremacy of God’s Word, a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to express that faith through our relationships and functioning together as a body, and to reflect Christ’s love to those outside the church.

To that end the church:

• Seeks to honour, obey and glorify God, acknowledging His sovereignty.
• Is committed to pray & faithfully preach God’s Word in its entirety.
• Proclaims a knowledge of God & salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work upon the cross as our substitute.
• Embraces the power of the Holy Spirit as the source of strength and equipping for living.
• Seeks to develop an individual’s spiritual life.
• Seeks to follow Jesus’ way of life, modelling His love, peace, justice and forgiveness in attitudes and behaviours.
• Accepts and seeks to follow the clear Biblical teaching on how we relate morally to one another. Colossians chapter 3 is an example of how we should relate to each  other.
